8 LIFESTYLE TIPS FOR IMPROVING HORMONAL IMBALANCE.

 1. Get Sufficient Sleep

Our sleep hours are super beneficial to us because that’s when all of our systems, including the endocrine system, get to reset and recharge.

Without sufficient sleep, the body and mind are always ON. And that means we’re constantly in “do” mode.

This is exhausting and eventually wears us down.

This also puts a strain on the adrenals, thyroid, liver and other hormone-producing organs.

2. Eat Organic Food

With every day that passes, more information comes out to highlight the dangers of pesticides and GMOs.

When we eat a food, it literally becomes us. If that food is genetically modified, then our bodies slowly become genetically modified.

Add to that, the toxicity and dangerous side effects of pesticides, and you can see that it’s much safer to eat organic food.

Even if you can’t eat organic 100% of the time, any improvements you make will reduce your exposure to the toxic chemicals that are in non-organic food.

3. Reduce Toxic Cosmetics

We all want to look and smell good, right? Nothing wrong with that.

What’s wrong – or should I say, criminal – is the high number of toxins that are in cosmetic products. Especially the ones made for women!

What we put on our face, spray on our hair or scalp, rub on our bodies…all goes into the body.

There is no strict FDA regulation of cosmetics, so brands are not required to list everything exactly as it is.

Your best option? Use less products, make your own and/or buy from trustworthy brands.

4. Use Infused Water to Stay Hydrated

Every process in the body needs energy in order to operate correctly.

And in order to produce energy, the body needs water.

This means that without enough water, various processes in the body slow down…and this includes the processes that regulate hormones.

So, to stay hydrated add infused water to your daily routine.

Not only are they refreshing, but they also help the body get rid of toxins and can be a great substitute for processed/sugary drinks.

5. Do Light to Moderate Intensity Exercise

Strenuous exercise can literally put a strain on the body and can even lead to symptoms such as erratic menstrual cycles, or no menstrual cycle at all.

Exercise is another form of stress and when done incorrectly, the effects can be harmful.

Instead, do more light- to moderate-intensity activities like yoga, walking, dancing or relaxing hikes.

Go for activities that leave you feeling refreshed, not drained.

6. Use Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

It’s amazing the price we have to pay to maintain a clean home.

Dish soap, detergents and oven cleaners are just a few of the household products that contain endocrine disruptors.

These products can release toxic fumes that enter the body through the nose. In addition, these products can also get onto the skin and into the bloodstream.

Just like with cosmetics, aim to buy “cleaner” brands, or better yet, make your own effective household cleaning products.

7. Prioritize “Me” Time (aka self-care)

Think self-care is just a trendy buzzword? Think again!

In the same way that sleep is necessary, self-care or “me” time is necessary to keep stress levels down.

When we manage stress properly, we reduce the strain on all of our vital processes. This, in turn, allows the body to find its natural (hormone) balance again.

Not to mention, when we feel good, we have more love to give to those around us.

Self care can be anything from exercise and meditation, to lunch with friends, journaling, a massage or a retreat.

Find what works for you and feeds your soul.

8. Embrace Natural Remedies

Has anyone ever told you that many drugs work by

Well, they do.

And often times, drugs are prescribed to treat hormone imbalance…which can sometimes worsen the symptoms!

Now, rather than rely on drugs for every little ailment, you can support your body by using more natural alternatives like herbs and essential oils.

Herbs provide nutrients that help to build up the body AND detox the body.

As for essential oils, they don’t contain nutrients. But they contain high concentrations of compounds that lower stress and support the body’s detox pathways.

The best part about all this?

When used correctly, essential oils and herbs are less likely to cause extreme “side effects” like blood clots, suicidal tendencies or death (all of which are side effects for some common drugs)
